INFLATION AND THE ECONOMY
Somewhere around after 1938, several people are attributed with saying “There’s no such thing as a free lunch.” It’s simple economics. It means that even though something, such as lunch or anything else, may seem to be free for individual, it is not actually free. That there is a cost included somewhere. Someone is always paying. When our government spends trillions of dollars for anything, someone always must pay the bill. In the case of our government spending seven and one half trillion dollars, yes, trillion dollars, during the Covid epidemic, the American public is paying the bill. Inflation is the result of massive spending. How do we pay? We pay the bill when we go to the supermarket to buy meat, eggs, soap, or fill up our tanks with gas.
Even if the government is printing more money, it takes more money to buy goods. When the government spends more, we pay more. There are lots of fancy words to describe inflation. Basically, it’s an increase in the amount of money you need to spend to purchase goods and services.
Unfortunately, not all the money allocated for COVID relief (American Rescue Plan Act of 2021) was spent in that direction. Only recently we are learning that cities with as little as 28,000 people received thirteen million dollars for an aquatic center. Fifteen million dollars were spent on promotional efforts to attract soccer’s 2026 World Cup to NJ. The state of Maine used twenty million dollars to modernize fish hatcheries and North Carolina spent five million dollars for the development of moonshine walking trails. There is more. Arizona spent seven million dollars to boost horse racing and New York received two million dollars to plant trees.
To really add salt to the wound, all of these “boondoggle” expenses did nothing to help those who were affected by the pandemic.
When candidates tell us that they are going to give us something for nothing, try to remember that it is not really free. You, the American public will pay the bill for all the “goodies” that the government wants to give you in order to receive your vote. We have already seen how this style of bribery worked in countries like Venezuela. Eventually, the
government runs out of money and no one, but the rich, can afford to buy goods and services. This is inflation.
This alone should be the single issue that people should hang their vote on! Who will be best to bring us back to the robust economy we enjoyed pre-pandemic. That answer is clear, Trump. Like him or not, he’s the only qualified candidate running in this election. If you believe that America is and should remain a democracy, you must vote Trump to protect our value system.
