WHAT ROLE DOES ABORTION PLAY IN THE ELECTION?
The subject of abortion in the United States has been a topic discussed openly, in the present, and quietly discussed in the past. Recent protests and movements have not always aligned with the lawmakers, including the Supreme Court.
When Roe V. Wade was decided, a women’s right to an abortion was not decided by a state law. A women’s right to an abortion was a right given to her by Roe V. Wade. The recent Supreme Court decision to give individual states the right to decide when a woman has the right to an abortion has inflamed many. Although this change in the law pleased some, it has angered many who do not believe that a state has the right to decide when a woman can end her pregnancy. This controversy seems to be one that can find no middle ground. The moderate view is overshadowed by the extreme right and extreme left. Each side sincerely believes that their view is worth a fight. Religion and a woman’s right to privacy are at odds. It is unlikely that there will ever be a consensus.
At this time, there is little likelihood that the present Supreme Court will reverse its latest decision to allow states to decide when an abortion is legal. It is also unlikely that a continuation of the Democratic administration will be able to change the Supreme Court decision. Are protesters shouting in the wind?
One who does not agree with the recent Supreme Court decision can work towards changing the abortion time allowed state by state.
The desire to change the legal limit to abortion in each state is a state issue-not a federal issue anymore. If one desires to change the abortion limits, it can and should be done on a state level. The election of a President of the United States is a federal issue.
The President of the United States has the power to determine the direction of the economy, use of our natural resources, our healthcare, inflation, our foreign relations, etc. Voting solely on the abortion issue, which cannot be changed in an election for the President of the United
States, will not take into consideration all the other factors that affect the daily life for ourselves and our families.
